Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQs
What happens when there is bad weather?
If our shoot is outdoors, I will be tracking the weather for that day and our time. I plan most of my photoshoots for that golden hour time-frame, but the weather isn’t always on our side. If it’s overcast, don’t fret — these days make for some of the most beautiful photos! We may just bump up our shoot an hour or so earlier to make sure we have ample lighting. If it is storming or raining, we will absolutely reschedule! Of course, if you are up for a unique rainy photoshoot, and there’s no lightning, you have the option to keep your scheduled shoot!
What if I need to reschedule my shoot?
Things come up, that’s life. If someone is sick, you have a family emergency, or something happens that is beyond your control, we will reschedule for a later date. Should something happen, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can adjust the date of your shoot.
Can I post my photos to social media?
Of course! The photos are yours to print, share, and enjoy. The only requirement is that you do not apply filters or alter the photo in any way, besides cropping the image. Although it’s not required, we’d love for you to tag us on social media when posting photos!
What types of payments are accepted?
For your session fee, I accept Zelle payments, ACH transfers, cash and checks. I will send you an invoice to be paid prior to your shoot, with detailed instructions. Any prints ordered directly from your gallery can be paid with credit or debit cards. Checks are to be made out to Light & Lynds, LLC., which can be dropped off or mailed. If you prefer to pay with cash, you can bring the total balance to your session.
What areas do you serve?
I serve Raleigh, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Apex, Durham,Cary, Garner, and Angier. If you reside outside of these locations and would like in-home photos, or prefer a outdoor location outside this zone, a travel fee will apply.
Families & Couples FAQs
Do you offer engagement photos?
Are you wanting engagement photos but aren’t quite ready to book your wedding photographer? I’d love to help out! While I do not offer wedding packages, I’d be more than happy to capture you in your fiancé era.
Can pets be included in our photos?
Yes, yes, and yes. Pets are a part of the family, and should be included if you want them to be. As long as our location permits pets, feel free to bring them along.
How can I get my child to participate?
As a mom of 3, I understand that it’s important to be prepared for the unexpected. Maybe one kid didn’t get a good nap in, or the other one is suddenly protesting any involvement. Don’t worry, I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Also, I highly recommend a few snacks and treats. A little bribing can go a long way.
Do you offer extended family sessions?
Definitely! Please contact me and we can chat about what you are looking for. Once I receive more information, I will be able to send you a quote for a personalized package.
What do we wear?
I want your photos to look as best as possible, which means I’ll help guide you when choosing what to wear. We want your outfits to look cohesive, without looking too “matchy”. This means choosing a color scheme that will work well with the location and season, and putting together outfits for each person based on that. You really can’t go wrong with solid muted colors. While large patterns aren’t ideal, adding a few smaller and subtle patterns can really tie the outfits together. Accessorize all you want — I love when someone’s ensemble really reflects their personality. Ultimately, you should feel beautiful and comfortable in whatever you choose!
Maternity FAQs
Can my partner and/or children be in the photos?
Yes, please! I love capturing this special moment along with the important people in your life. While most of the focus will be on mom, your partner and kids are part of this journey too, so let’s document it that way!
What should I bring?
You don’t have to bring anything at all, but I encourage parents to bring a special item or two that they may want incorporated in the photos. You could bring a sonogram photo, a special onesies or shoes for the baby, or even a sign announcing the name if you wish.
When should my maternity photos be taken?
The best time to take your maternity photos is between 28-34 weeks. This is the sweet spot since you’ll have a nice round baby bump and not feeling too uncomfortable yet, at least hopefully. I do not recommend scheduling any later than 36 weeks, since babies can be unpredictable, however as long as baby hasn’t arrived yet, photos can be taken at anytime if you’re up for it! If you are expecting multiples, we would schedule your session about a month sooner.
What should I wear?
Often time, a long flowing dress will be most flattering and is often what moms choose to wear. But maybe you want to dress more casual and wear ripped jeans and a button down Oxford shirt. This is all part of the planning phase, which we’ll discuss before your shoot! I am happy to offer suggestions based on location or specific vibes you are going for. The ultimate goal is to have you comfortable and feeling your very best during the photoshoot.
Lifestyle Newborn FAQs
What does “lifestyle” mean?
Lifestyle photography is an artistic approach to documenting people in the “everyday”, creating natural and relaxed photos. While I may pose you a specific way, the art happens from your interactions with family members and baby. These photos will be “baby-led”, meaning we follow babies cues and document the excitement around taking care of this new precious life. Lifestyle sessions are less about props and outfits, and more about you, your family, and your environment. I always take some naturally posed photos of baby, however, my priority will always be their safety. These are often taken with their crib as the backdrop, or swaddled up in a bassinet or Moses basket.
How long do the photos take?
I book newborn sessions for 3 hours, however we can typically get all of the images done in about 2 hours. During these sessions, baby is in charge, so we just follow their cues and take breaks for feedings, diaper changing, and comforting.
When should newborn photos be taken?
5-14 days is the best time to get those sleepy images of your baby. They are still asleep most of the day at this point and less distracted by noises and stimuli. What if they are older than two weeks? No worries! Baby may be more alert during the session, and more interactive, but the photos will be just as beautiful. Because I have a lifestyle approach, we won’t be worried about intricate posing, so really we can take these photos anytime during the first month of life!
Do you bring any props?
I typically bring a few minimal items with me to help with individual images of the baby, such as a basket, some swaddles, cheesecloths, and a backdrop. Most of the time, I typically work with items that you already have and would like to incorporate. Anything I bring that touches baby has been sanitized and washed in Dreft laundry detergent.
How do we schedule a date before baby arrives?
Whenever you inquire about newborn photos, I’ll put your anticipated due date on my calendar. I’ll make sure to leave dates open in the week before you due date, and two weeks after. Once baby is born, contact me as soon as you can so we can adjust the date. Even if baby arrives a bit early, we will find a date that works. Photos will be taken during morning hours on the scheduled date.
What safety precautions do you take for my baby?
Safety is the top priority when capturing images of your baby. Any posing of the baby will be natural and comfortable. My hands will always be washed before holding the baby, and I often use hand sanitizer throughout the session. I understand how important it is to protect the health of your newest addition, so I stay up to date on my Tdap shot, and annual flu shot. Since we have a smaller window of time for newborn photos, I do everything in my power to make sure a session does not have to be rescheduled; however, if I have any signs of illness, I will reschedule the session. What may be a cold for me could be detrimental to your newborn. I will also bring a mask to wear during our session at your request. Making you feel as comfortable about the health and safety of your baby is most important during this time.
Senior Session FAQs
Can a friend or family member attend my session?
Absolutely! You are welcome to bring whoever you would like to your Senior Session, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible! If you would like to include additional people in your photos, this will be priced differently.
Will my photos be delivered in time for graduation announcements?
I allot about 2-3 weeks to process senior photos, and prints take around one week to be processed and delivered. Please plan your session with enough time to have your photos processed and printed. Upon request, photo processing can be expedited with a 5 day turn around, for an additional fee.
What is the best time to schedule senior photos?
There’s no rule for when these need to be taken! We can take these as early as the spring before your senior year begins. We can take photos during any season, however I highly recommend Fall or Spring. If you would like photos for your graduation announcement, it is best to book no later than Fall of your Senior year in order to guarantee ample time.
What should I bring to my photoshoot?
This is totally up to you! I recommend your cap and gown if you have it, or maybe some merch from a University or College you are planning to attend. Although we are going for natural photos, I am happy to incorporate any special items into your photoshoot.
